Red Onion Relish is one of the iconic flavours of the Cape.
Delicious with pork - roast or smoked - served with mashed potatoes. Also excellent with roast chicken.
Spread onto crostini, top with small cubes of Brie, a few rocket leaves and sprinkle with toasted pine-nuts. Really tasty on a sandwich with Cheddar Cheese.
Make a butternut bake for a vegetarian dinner... Par-cook cubes of butternut and stack loosely in an oven-proof dish and sprinkle with Dukkah spice. Spoon blobs of Mascarpone cheese in between the cubes, add blobs of Red Onion Relish. Crumble Feta cheese and crushed Macadamia nuts over the top. Grill until the cheese melts and the Macadamias are crisp. Serve with brown rice mixed with wild rice and lentils.
